The order needs to specify the intended appliance, arch, relevant records and finish. The prescribing clinician remains responsible for the clinical indication, delivery assessment and patient instructions.
Specify the material, not just “clear”
Confirm the exact product and its intended use. Clear PMMA materials specifically indicated for occlusal splints exist, but that does not make every clear polymer interchangeable.[1]

Supply the right manufacturing input
An approved splint design and a pair of jaw scans are different submissions. State whether the design is complete, identify the file revision and provide the records needed to understand the prescription.
The work order should capture prescribed geometry and any case-specific constraints. Do not use a generic thickness or offset from another provider as a universal production setting.
Agree on finishing and receiving checks
Ask what will be included after milling and what your technicians must still perform. Define how your lab will verify correspondence with the order and how a concern should be reported.
Milling and printing are different production routes, and established outsourcing catalogs distinguish them.[2] The useful comparison is the complete material-and-process workflow, not a blanket claim that one technology always produces a better appliance.
Start with an agreed pilot
Use a pilot to test prescription completeness, revision handling, finish and the receiving workflow. The proposed case count, price and schedule require confirmation; a pilot is not an unlimited remake or free-trial promise.
For US delivery, confirm destination, shipment arrangements and the applicable documentation pathway before physical fulfillment is accepted.
